Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How do I secure a park pass to visit Acadia National Park?
Answer: A National Park pass is required for your vehicle. You can go online to secure your pass (which is good for 7 consecutive days) at recreation.gov This pass is good at either side of Acadia National Park (Mount Desert and Schoodic). You can then print this pass and display inside in the corner of your vehicle. (If you are a guest with us, email us your purchased pass, and we can print this off for you at no charge.)
Also, you can purchase a pass at the campground on our Schoodic side and/or at the Welcome Center in Trenton (coming July 2025) or Hulls Cove Visitor Center on Mt. Desert.
Question: How do I get a pass to Cadillac Mountain (Mt. Desert side)?
Answer: If you stay with us prior to the beginning of the summer season (which usually begins Memorial Day weekend), there is no pass/charge needed. Once summer is upon us, there are many visitors to the park, and it is necessary to secure a day/time pass; this requires a $6 reservation fee for your vehicle, which needs to be booked/paid for online at recreation.gov
Question: Where can I park and take a bus?
Answer: On the Schoodic side of Acadia NP, there is a FREE Island Explorer Bus (beginning May 21st) that will pick you up at 9:00 a.m., in front of our camp store. It will take you into the park and you’ll be able to explore various stops along the way. There are bike racks on the bus (not for fat tires and/or electric bikes), and these will be transported free as well. Your pets are welcome on the bus; however, they cannot take up a seat (need to be on the floor/or in your lap). The bus will return you to the campground @ 5 p.m. Now, if you are not planning an all-day excursion there, you can drive your vehicle to the park (and park in Winter Harbor, the campground, or Birch Harbor) and then jump on/off the bus as you will. For more info: Island Explorer: https://www.exploreacadia.com/index.html
Please Note: If you have a Class A, B, C, that is longer than 22 feet, you will need to park in the Campground within ANP and then take the bus to other points of interest in the park. This bus route basically travels @ 6 times around the 12 miles of ANP (two lanes of one-way loop.
Answer: If you want to park and take a bus on the Mt. Desert/Bar Harbor side, there’s ample FREE parking for your vehicle in the MDOT Park and Ride lot at the Acadia Gateway Center Drive in Trenton Maine. This bus schedule operates, beginning in late June through August and then modified times from August through Columbus weekend.
Please Note: If you have a Class A, B, C, that is longer than 22 feet, there will be loops within the park that are unavailable (length and height restrictions). In this case, we would recommend that you park your vehicle at the Hull’s Cove Visitor Center and then jump on the bus.
For Fun: Another way to get over to the Mt. Desert/Bar Harbor side is to take the 9 a.m. bus (or drive to the Ferry in Winter Harbor), which will drop you off in time to catch the 10 a.m. Ferry. It will arrive at 11 a.m. You will then have a solid 4 hours to shop, eat, and/or jump on the buses there. Be sure to be back for the 3:30 p.m. ferry back to Winter Harbor. The bus will then pick you up and bring you back home @ 5 p.m. Pets and bikes can be transported by ferry, as well. For Ferry Reservations, call: 207-288-2984
