Time & Location
May 24, 2025, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Bar Harbor, Village Green, Bar Harbor, ME 04609, USA
About the event
This year’s ceremony will include a wreath laying, a community invocation led by Tracy from the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, and a keynote address by Dr. Duane Tomah, a Wabanaki and Passamaquoddy Language and Cultural Knowledge Carrier.
Dr. Tomah is the youngest fluent speaker of the Passamaquoddy language and has dedicated his life to preserving and revitalizing Native language, culture, and history. His work includes translating the historic 130-year-old wax cylinder recordings of Passamaquoddy songs and stories for the Library of Congress, recognized as some of the earliest field recordings of Indigenous voices. Through his efforts in cultural education, repatriation advocacy, and Indigenous rights, Dr. Tomah teaches the importance of tradition, community, and healing in today's world.
All are welcome to attend this free public event. Please join us as we come together in reflection, gratitude, and community spirit to honor the sacrifices of the past and strengthen the bonds…
